Visual language and website refresh

RESULTS:
FTCH, a professional civil engineering, architectural engineering, environmental, and construction services consulting firm, was looking to keep up with its evolving target audience. FTCH wanted a website refresh that moves toward a clean, modern, photography-focused style while maintaining a connection to its long-standing legacy as a trusted partner. Starting with FTCH’s new tagline  “ALL Services, IN Your City, ONE Source”, we designed a refined visual language with bold, full-width photography. The new look and feel supports the “All In One” claim while providing a concise yet intriguing summary to all website user audiences. Utilizing minimal ornamentation to emphasize FTCH’s staying power and portray a sense of confidence, the site was updated with modern usability features, simplified information hierarchy centered on projects, and a much-needed mobile friendly design.

Roush Performance: eCommerce Website

Off to the races with a brand-building digital touchpoint

RESULTS:

Roush Performance produces some of the highest performing vehicles and components available anywhere. The brand is known for precision engineering and pushing limits, whether on the street or the racetrack. And when it came time to redesign its eCommerce website and build it on Magento, Roush Performance turned to NewFoundry.

A performance automotive brand with a storied racing past needs its website to tell that story. The former Roush Performance website emphasized free shipping deals and the types of parts available for purchase while missing an opportunity to connect with customers on an aspirational and emotional level. We reimagined the information architecture of the website to reinforce the brand’s premium marketplace positioning and strengthen the messaging. The new homepage shines a light on the racing heritage and muscle that is infused into every aspect of the Roush Performance brand. It’s easy for the user to find the information they crave about Roush vehicles and performance parts – and enjoy a frictionless purchase experience – via the top menu and featured products links on the lower half of the home page.

NewFoundry designers extended the look we previously created for the Roush Performance brand in its vehicle configurator to develop the look of the new website. Key aspects of the established visual language were applied in new ways, including layout and use of negative space, color palette, typography, photography styles, rendering characteristics, and forward-leaning call-to-action treatments.

NewFoundry engineers worked alongside our design team to bring the new design vision to life as an all-new Magento-based eCommerce site. From implementing core Magento functionality to showcasing Roush Performance products and content in a clean and easy-to-navigate interface to deploying in AWS, our team engineered a scaleable eCommerce sales engine specifically for Roush Performance; a custom payment processing solution integrates with its legacy enterprise platform. And of course, we made sure it all worked lightning fast.

Between the vehicle configurator, a dealer portal, the new flagship website, the Active Exhaust product app and a sales kiosk application that NewFoundry has designed and engineered for Roush Performance, the brand is now represented in the B2C and B2B digital realms with consistent, compelling, and seamless user experiences at every turn.

Movimento

App for Mitsubishi’s FLEXConnect™ IVI

RESULTS:
Mitsubishi Electric announced its new generation of FLEXConnect™ In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems. The system, which it planned to feature at TU-Automotive Detroit, is built on an Android™ platform and leverages information sharing across center touchscreen, instrument cluster, and heads-up displays.

Movimento, for whom NewFoundry developed the iOS-based Premio X® application, recognized this as an important opportunity to extend its cloud-based over-the-air (OTA) vehicle reflashing platform from a B2B, enterprise-centered solution to a consumer application. They came to us to make their vision a reality.

When we first built Premio X, our approach was to build in the flexibility to take it in whatever direction Movimento may want to go. We were ready for the challenge.

iOS to Android? Check.

Sophisticated automotive-based platform user to intuitive, easy-to-use consumer app? Absolutely.

Beautifully designed presentation geared to specific use cases? Of course.

Smart engineering that leverages the platform to work in a completely new operating environment? You came to the right place.

NewFoundry designed and engineered the new interface between the Movimento OTA platform and the end user by following our multi-disciplinary approach that fuses design, user experience, and engineering. We deployed it on a 2014 Cadillac CTS demo vehicle to show how the Movimento OTA Platform can update infotainment apps as easily as it can update firmware. Progress of vehicle app updates may be seen on all three information displays (center touchscreen, instrument cluster, and heads-up display). App downloads may be scheduled, controlled, and monitored from an Android IVI system, iOS tablet, or smartphone interface.

By partnering with Movimento, Mitsubishi Electric is demonstrating how third-party apps built using native Android development tools can integrate into their FLEXConnect platform. Visitors to TU-Detroit were able to experience the seamless integration for themselves.

Roush Performance: Mobile App

Active Exhaust companion app turns heads while increasing product take rates

RESULTS:
Roush Performance sought NewFoundry’s expertise to design and engineer a mobile app for its new Active Exhaust product. Forged by NewFoundry from the ground up, this challenge leveraged our unique blend of design, UX/UI, and embedded software engineering expertise to provide a unique, wireless interface between drivers and Roush’s unique exhaust sound “tuning” product.

Active Exhaust first made waves when it appeared as a demonstration at SEMA in November 2014. Car & Driver later wrote about Active Exhaust as part of an introduction of Roush’s Stage 3 Mustang. The story included this little gem of a quote that we have decided is our all-time favorite published commentary about one of our products:

“Custom mode allows you to program your own sound map from your smartphone or tablet. Which is supremely geeky but also kind of rad.”

Car & Driver later wrote a thorough, top-down review of Active Exhaust focusing on the mobile app interface, with this quote nicely summing up their expert opinion:

“…it works flawlessly and creating tunes is dead simple and intuitive after you’ve done your first.”

The app works by communicating with internal vehicle electronics via a wireless OBD-II interface. It provides an elegant, streaming display of vehicle speed, accelerator pedal position, ambient decibel levels, and throttle position in addition to the current state of the Active Exhaust system to allow the user to visualize the relationship between driving actions and exhaust sound. The app also allows power users to create their own custom tuning of the exhaust sound and save their tunings to the vehicle.

The companion app, credited with significantly increasing take rates on the Active Exhaust product, marked the start of a long-standing product development partnership between NewFoundry and Roush Performance. “Today is a big milestone,” NewFoundry CTO, Chris Myers, remarked at the time of the app’s release. “But I know that when it comes to fusing tech and performance, it’s just the beginning of what’s possible.”

eTrans Systems

Application developed to showcase V2X technology at ITS California Annual Meeting and Exhibition

RESULTS:
eTrans Systems, creators of software for the driverless and connected vehicle industry, showcased its V2X technology at the 2015 Intelligent Transportation Society of California Annual Meeting, and NewFoundry created the mobile application to visualize this innovation.

This software includes V2X driver safety applications such as Crash Avoidance Brake Detection, On-Coming Vehicle Detection, and Intersection which predicts the state of upcoming traffic lights. eTrans Systems maintains the cloud-based, server-side infrastructure that receives the data from the V2X vehicles and relays it to the client applications. NewFoundry takes this streaming vehicle data and transforms it into an interactive map-based user interface.

The result is an engaging, educational experience that allows users to see the power of V2X technology and the future of the transportation industry.

LoudMouth

Exhaust tuning application featured at SEMA 2015

RESULTS:
LoudMouth Exhaust engaged NewFoundry to design and develop an app for its exhaust tuning offering in support of the brand launch at the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. The app was designed to visualize the custom exhaust tuning capabilities and reinforce the unique attitude and stance of the LoudMouth brand, including the iconic Loudmouth head that grows and shakes as the customizable exhaust note grows in volume.

“This was a really fun app to design,” remarked NewFoundry Chief Creative Officer, Kyle Feliks, while at the Loudmouth exhibit. “The LoudMouth team is super happy, and visitors to the booth are having a blast experiencing the merging of tech and performance.”

Roush Performance: Vehicle Configurator

Custom solution moves consumers from dreaming to the dealer

RESULTS:
Roush Performance Products approached NewFoundry with a vision to create an engaging online vehicle configurator (i.e., build-your-own Roush) to foster a more immersive digital experience for website visitors. Our team of designers, engineers, and strategists approached the challenge holistically, leveraging our automotive domain expertise, UX/UI design, and web application development talent throughout the process.

The vehicle configurator seamlessly allows visitors to select colors, core components, and various options, which individualize their Roush vehicle. The experience comes alive courtesy of photorealistic rendering and rotation capabilities, enabling the user to view the vehicle from different vantage points. Upon configuring his or her ideal custom Roush vehicle, the user can easily share it with friends through social media or email, request dealer contact to answer questions and start the sales process, or download a PDF to bring along on a visit to the showroom. In response to enthusiastic dealer adoption of configurator, later phases of the project included a dealer portal for ordering, tracking, inventory management, and analytics.

With the new configurator, Roush Performance Products is well-positioned to make the digital experience a much larger part of their play and ensures that the online and offline truly complement one another.

Check out the Roush Performance vehicle configurator and start dreaming about your own new Roush vehicle.
